10 Signs your Aging Parents Needs Assistance to Stay at Home

Independence is very important to all of us. Some older adults go to great lengths to cover up the fact that they need help.

Here are some of the warning signs an older adult may need assistance at home:

  1. The house is cold, the telephone is cut off.
  2. Losing track in a conversation, forgetting the names of children, grandchildren, the day of the week, etc.
  3. The death of a spouse.
  4.  The refrigerator and cupboards are half empty even though you know they can still get out.
  5. Personal hygiene is poor.
  6. Constantly making excuses when asked to go somewhere or do something, or wanting to be alone.
  7. Sudden weight loss.
  8. Never cleaning or delaying home repairs.
  9. Failure to take prescribed medications.
  10. Behavior changes.

If any of these warning signs sound familiar to you, it may be time to look into some extra help.
Home care is a great option. A companion can come to the home from a few hours a week up to 24 hours a day to help with cooking, laundry, light housekeeping, errand running, companionship, and much more.
Sometimes a little extra help is all that is needed to provide families and friends of an older adult peace of mind.
